The Harvest Archetype
(draft — to be rewritten from the ledger) Giving thanks for the harvest is the archetype of festivals born with agriculture the world over. Japan's Niiname-sai, the mid-autumn feasts of the Sinosphere, Sukkot, the North American Thanksgiving — the forms differ, but the skeleton is the same: offer the harvest first, then eat together. Turn the month wheel to autumn and the lights of the northern hemisphere come on together.
